Featuring other artists in your Journal is a great thing to do, because everyone wins! Not only are you supporting other artists by giving them some extra exposure, but you can also earn some exposure for yourself and make new friends too. Additionally, those who view your feature have the opportunity to find some new art and artists.

Therefore, it pays to make your Journal features the best they can be. Making a really good Journal feature can involve a lot of time and work - planning, collecting artwork, arranging the artwork in a Journal, publication, and promotion. Taking these steps instead of merely dragging in thumbs from your Favourites will result in an appealing and rewarding Journal feature. In this tutorial, we're going to produce a feature with images arranged like this:

How to: Make thumbs big in features?I get this asked a lot!
Back when they introduced sta.sh, I didn't really use it. Because it seemed hard to get used to. I always wrote my articles in the old way.
Then I toyed with it a little and noticed that is is something really awesome!
Not to mention that the only way to make articles and journals is through Sta.sh Writer.
So I assume not so many if you know that there is a way to make thumbs big!
That is actually pretty easy. All you have to do is add big in front of a thumb code!
For example:

Getting the Most out of dA: CommentingUsually, when you read something involving 'Commenting', you think of deviations and the commenting platform that allows other members of the community to voice their thoughts and opinions on the art shown. However, what is pretty evident, and something that most of us may forget, is that deviantART runs on the ability to give and get comments, be it on pieces of artwork, our profile pages, +forums, and everywhere else in between.
In a sense, without the ability to give and get comments, deviantART wouldn't be much of a website, much less #1 of online art communities around. Originally i wanted to write this journal when i reached 2000 watchers, but school starts on monday and right now i have more time

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people that support me here on DeviantArt. When i created my profil about 10 month ago i never thought that so many people would like my work. This really encourages me to take even more photos. I love to hold contests, feature people and browse through amazing pieces of art, there are so many great things to do.
In this 10 month i got my first DD and even earned money with my photography. For me all that is just so...unbelieveable

How to improve your skills in close-up-photographySince many people asked me how I take my pictures and why they are so "special", I would like to tell you how I manage things when I take pictures.
I. Finding the location
When I go outside to take pictures of nature, I do barely have any concepts in my mind. I just go and let nature inspire me. The first important step is finding a location.It is not that difficult to find an interesting background. I personally do prefer backgrounds which are not monochrome. Many shades of light (light and dark contrasts or different colors) make your picture interesting, no matter if the final result will be monochrome or colorful in the end.I look out for locations where not many people are. Like a big meadow in front of a house or a field or forests. (Forests do have the special plus that it does almost always have different light shadings I mentioned in 2).

I noticed that a lot of people don't know how to search for their photos on the internet, so here is a short tutorial. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about art thieves, but i still think it is important to look out for them.
1. visit Google.com
2. Go to the page of the photo you want to search and click "show image"
3. Copy the Link and paste it into google.
4. This page should open, click "search by image".
5. Now you can browse trough the results.
6. The less results the happier you should be.
EDIT : You can also use websites like : tineye.com and iqdb.com
This was pointed out to me by some people, personally i have no experience with them, but i am sure that they work too.

Since i get asked a lot how i create my Features i decided to write a short tutorial about it, i hope it will help some of you :

1. Feature
What we want to create :

Of course you can add a lot more photos ! ( Example : [link] )

The html code :

- the first part ( <da:deviation id= ) is always the same

- the number you can read in the " " is the thumbnumber of the photo you want to feature

Example : Thumb Code : :thumb416115653:
Thumb Number : 416115653

- width="600" refers to the size of the shown photo but this just works for the width and not for the height of a photo

- if you want to add more than one photo in a row you have to devide the 600 into two, it will take some attempts until they fit perfectly,
to get what i mean i will add another example code :

- This works pretty similar to the first Feature

- the sizes of all photos in rows with more than one photo should all together have a smaller size than 600 since you want to leave spaces between them

- it is important that you use only similar photos ( e.g. only squares ) in one row, if you do that you can use the same width for all photos, which is a lot easier and faster

- use a blank line between each row

I think this only works if you have a premium dA membership - on my account which had a premium membership I used to do features, then when my membership expired the journal skins disappeared and the text was just full of code and no pictures
